Finance Minister Tendai Biti has said that Zimbabwe would not be begging for funds to conduct elections if treasury was adequately receiving cash from diamond sales.
Minister Biti said this during a press conference addressing the first quarter of the state of the economy where he said that treasury did not have the capacity to fund elections that are scheduled for later this year.

Zimbabweans should vote for a party that will change in their lives for the better, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has said.
Dr Tsvangirai, who is also the President of the Movement for Democratic Change was addressing thousands of supporters at Tsovani Stadium in Chiredzi, Saturday.
“We should not forget that Zanu PF had destroyed this country. There was no food in the shops. The hospitals had closed while school children had no books and teachers had deserted the sector. Do not forget that the economy had literally collapsed before we formed the inclusive Government. Our lives have improved and we should know who helped us come from this mess. We are able to deliver,” the Premier said.

Cancer hospital fundraising kicks off |

Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe has started raising about $50 million to build a state of the art hospital, which will cater for cancer patients in Zimbabwe.
DPM Khupe, a cancer survivor is the founder and Patron of the Thokozani Khupe Cancer Foundation.

On Wednesday, the Herald reported that Edgar Gobvu, one of the Prime Minister’s aides had been arrested for claiming travel and subsistence allowance for a trip he did not undertake.
The Herald alleges that Gobvu defrauded State funds on a fake trip.

Trial for Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s staffers who are facing charges of contravening the Official Secrecy Acts (OSA) will kick off 13th to 17th May.
The defense counsel representing Thabani Mpofu, Felix Matsinde, Warship Dumba and Mehluli Tshuma, last Thursday had complained that the State was delaying the case.
This was after the case had been postponed from Monday to Thursday last week. It had been postponed again to today (Monday). |
